Audiowiesel has launched E-Ukulele, a huge (over 1 GB of audio material!) free Kontakt instrument library featuring the sounds of an Epiphone Les Paul electronic ukulele.

We sampled an electronic ukulele (Les Paul model) from Epiphone. At the beginning it was just a fun project and we kept adding new sample content for private use only. Now, we decided to make this available to the public as free download in order to let everybody use this in their own productions.

E-Ukulele includes two different versions of the instrument. One version features only the chord samples, while the other one is geared towards solo performances. Both versions of the instrument feature tons of content though, so the chords instrument for example comes with 10 different chord variations for every root note! This means that you can play all the different variations of a chord such as major, minor, sus2, sus4, etc.

The single notes version of the instrument includes four velocity layers and 11 round robin variations per velocity, for a total of 1,258 individual samples! That is an insane amount of sample material for a free product and I can’t thank the Audiowiesel team enough for releasing this amazing sample library as a free product. According to the description, they’ve been building it for personal use and at one point they’ve decided to release it as a free product for everyone.

Perhaps the only real drawback is that the library only works in Kontakt 5 since the individual samples are not included in the download pack (you can also use the library for 15 minutes in the freeware Kontakt Player). I’d love to see an alternative version of E-Ukulele which would include individual WAV samples.
